Formerly a deserted and secluded sandy beach largely only known among backpackers, Lonely Beach has transformed itself to an exclusive retreat destination with a good variety of accommodation. Normally the last stop for the shared ‘songtaew’ (passenger-carrying pick-up truck), Lonely Beach is on the rocky side on the southern end of Kai Bae Beach. For swimming and water sports, it’s better to walk a bit further up to Kai Bae. Though not as ‘lonely’ as it once used to be, Lonely Beach nowadays still offers a cheap and peaceful retreat perfect for those who are on a tight budget and wanting to avoid the mainstream crowd.
