Privately owned and operated by Bangkok Airways, Trat Airport serves the airline’s daily domestic and international flights to/from mainland Trat and is the closest airport to Koh Chang. With the total area of 217 square kilometres, Koh Chang lies off the east of the Trat province, about 30 kilometres in length and almost 14 kilometres in width. Located in the eastern part of Thailand with Cambodia as its neighbor, Trat has fertile land that produces rubber, and a variety of fruits as well as a bustling fishing villages. Due to its mountainous and hilly landscape, Koh Chang isn’t built for breezy getting around. Since he distance between each beach is not suitable for walking, and also the island has unpredictable roads and steep hills, it’s best to rely on ‘songtaew’ taxis. Events & Festivals
Most festivals unique to Trat province are celebrated on the mainland. Among them are Talay Trat Fishing Competition (middle of December at Lam Ngob and Center Point piers), Trat Memorial Day (January 23) and Trat’s Special Products Day (end of April). If you’re looking for some action on the island, visit Koh Chang during the countrywide celebrations like Songkran (Thai New Year), Loy Krathong (Candle Light Festival) and a New Year’s Eve.
